Importing a Xiaomi

Xiaomi went from smartphones to setting an electric lap record at the Nürburgring in barely three years. In China, buyers wait months for an SU7 or YU7. In Europe, you will not find one in a showroom yet. The official European launch is planned for 2027, and nobody knows which models and versions will make the cut. If you would rather drive one now, Xiaomi import is the way to go. It is possible, but it is not a routine import. Chinese export rules, extra EU duties and a different charging standard make it a job for specialists. SCL Rotterdam brings your Xiaomi into Europe through the port of Rotterdam and handles everything from sourcing to registration. Before you commit, we tell you honestly what it costs and what to watch out for.

Why import a Xiaomi into Europe?

Xiaomi builds cars the way it builds phones: a lot of technology for a relatively modest price. The SU7 is a five metre sports sedan that is often compared to the Porsche Taycan. In China it starts at around 28,000 euros. The YU7 is its SUV sibling, with a claimed range of up to 835 kilometres on the Chinese test cycle. The interior is built around software, with large screens and a system that links to your phone and smart home.

Above all, it is about being early. Until Xiaomi sells officially in Europe, very few people on the continent will own one. Even after 2027, there is no guarantee that every model reaches European dealers. Think of the extreme SU7 Ultra or the large YU9 SUV. For enthusiasts who want the latest from China, importing is the only route.

Popular Xiaomi models to import

Xiaomi SU7

The sports sedan that started it all. Choose between an entry version with rear wheel drive and the Max with two motors and an 800 volt system for fast charging. An updated version arrived in January 2026.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra

Three electric motors and more than 1,500 horsepower. It set an electric lap record at the Nürburgring. A collector's car, and one whose official European future is far from certain.

Xiaomi YU7

The SUV that took hundreds of thousands of orders in China within eighteen hours. Spacious, fast and with a long range. This is the model we are asked about most.

Xiaomi YU7 GT

The sporty top version of the YU7, with even more power. Widely tipped as one of the first models Xiaomi will bring to Europe.

Xiaomi YU9

A large SUV of over 5.2 metres with six or seven seats. It drives electrically and uses a petrol engine as a range extender on long trips. That sets it apart from the rest of the line up, including at customs.

What to know before you import a Xiaomi

Importing a Xiaomi is exciting, but there are a few catches. We would rather put them on the table now than have you discover them at the border.

Where the car comes from

Since January 2026, China only allows fully electric cars to be exported under an export licence. That is why we often look at cars that are already in Dubai or another market. We will tell you which route is realistic for the model you want.

EU duties and VAT

New electric cars from China face an extra EU countervailing duty on top of the standard 10 percent import duty. Import VAT is added as well, at the rate of the country where the car is cleared. The low Chinese sticker price is not what you will pay in Europe.

Registration differs per country

Once a car has been cleared through customs in Rotterdam, it can move freely within the EU. Registration is a national matter, though. Every country has its own inspection, its own paperwork and sometimes its own registration tax. SCL arranges Dutch and German registration in house, and we can advise on the steps for other European countries.

Charging

A Chinese market Xiaomi has a charging port based on the Chinese GB/T standard, while Europe uses CCS2. We discuss the available solutions for your car up front.

Software, warranty and service

The system is designed for China, so expect Chinese apps, maps and voice control. Over the air updates do not always work outside China. Xiaomi has no dealer network in Europe yet, which means servicing and parts work differently from a brand with a workshop around the corner.

  4. Customs clearance. We file the declaration and settle all duties and taxes correctly.
  5. Conversion and inspection. In our workshop we prepare the car for European rules, ready for the inspection in your country.
  6. Registration and delivery. We arrange registration where possible and deliver your Xiaomi by road to your door, wherever you are in Europe.

You can follow every step in real time through our customer portal.

What does it cost to import a Xiaomi?

The final price is made up of the purchase price, shipping, import duty plus the EU countervailing duty, import VAT, conversion work, inspection and registration. On top of that, some countries charge a registration tax, such as BPM in the Netherlands, while others do not. A Xiaomi that costs around 30,000 euros in China will therefore cost considerably more once it is on European roads. Want to know where you will end up? How long does a Xiaomi import take?

Expect a few months from purchase. Shipping, customs, conversion and inspection together determine the timeline. You will get a realistic schedule with your quote.
