Plymouth import
A purple Road Runner that honks "beep beep" as it pulls away. A Hemi 'Cuda with air scoops all over the bonnet. A red 1958 Fury that takes on a life of its own in a horror film. For decades Plymouth stood for affordable American cars with a big heart, and in the 1960s and 1970s for some of the wildest muscle cars ever built. In 2001, Chrysler pulled the plug on the brand. There are no new Plymouths, and good examples are scarce in Europe. If you want one, Plymouth import is the way to get it. SCL Rotterdam brings your Plymouth from the United States or Canada, checks that it is what it claims to be and handles everything up to registration. Before you commit, we tell you honestly what it costs and what to watch out for.
Why import a Plymouth?
Plymouth was Chrysler's entry level brand, and that gave it a character of its own. Where Dodge and Chrysler were pricier and more luxurious, Plymouth built cars for young buyers with little money and big ambitions: a large V8 in a relatively simple car, built for straight line speed.
In America the supply is still large, in Europe it is not. On top of that, most classic Plymouths are now old enough for the favourable rules on collector vehicles, which can make an import surprisingly affordable.
Popular Plymouth models to import
Plymouth Barracuda and 'Cuda
The best known Plymouth. The 1970 to 1974 third generation is the most sought after, especially as a 'Cuda with a big V8. A 1970 or 1971 Hemi 'Cuda is among the most valuable muscle cars in the world, while the 340 and 383 versions are far more attainable and just as much fun.
Plymouth Road Runner and GTX
The Road Runner was the fast car for a small budget, complete with a horn that mimics the famous cartoon bird. The GTX was its more luxurious sibling. Both were available with big V8s, up to the 426 Hemi.
Plymouth Superbird
Built in 1970 to win in NASCAR, with a pointed nose and a huge rear wing. Only a few thousand were made, and today they are serious collector's items.
Plymouth Fury, Duster and Valiant
The Fury is a big, chrome laden cruiser, and the 1958 model became world famous through a horror film. The Duster and Valiant are smaller, simpler cars. A Duster with a 340 V8 is an underrated muscle car.
Plymouth Prowler
The 1997 to 2002 retro roadster with an aluminium body and exposed front wheels. It is not yet 30 years old, so standard import rules apply.
Genuine or clone?
A real Hemi 'Cuda or GTX is worth many times more than a regular Barracuda or Satellite, so plenty of cars are converted and sold as originals. The VIN and fender tag show which engine and options the car left the factory with. Our pre purchase inspection checks these details and the body, because rust is often the biggest risk on cars of this age.
What to know before you import a Plymouth
Duties and VAT on classics
A Plymouth over 30 years old in original condition often qualifies for the collector vehicle rules, with no import duty and a reduced VAT rate in many EU countries. Younger cars such as the Prowler pay the standard 10 percent import duty plus import VAT.
Registration and taxes differ per country
Registration and road tax are national matters, and many countries offer favourable treatment for classics. Germany has the H plate for cars over 30 years old, and the Netherlands exempts cars over 40 years old from road tax. SCL arranges Dutch and German registration in house and can advise on other European countries.

What does it cost to import a Plymouth?
The final price is made up of the purchase price, shipping, any import duty, VAT, inspection and registration. For classics, the bill is often favourable thanks to the collector rules. The purchase price itself ranges from an affordable Valiant to a Hemi 'Cuda that costs as much as a house. Want to know where you will end up? Calculate your costs or ask us for a tailored quote.
