Denza import

Denza is the luxury brand of BYD, China's largest carmaker. In 2026 it began its European rollout with the Z9 GT, priced from around 115,000 euros, and plans to reach some thirty countries. But that is only a small part of the line up. In China, Denza builds large SUVs with more than 900 horsepower that can crab walk sideways and cover over 1,200 kilometres on a full tank and battery. None of them are on the European roadmap yet. If you want one, Denza import is the way to get it. SCL Rotterdam brings your Denza in through the port of Rotterdam and handles everything up to registration. And we will tell you straight when buying from a European dealer makes more sense.

Why import a Denza?

Denza started in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler and is now fully owned by BYD. It has become one of China's biggest premium brands, known for its technology: plug-in hybrids with three electric motors, active air suspension, rear wheel steering and charging in minutes.

In Europe, Denza mainly offers the Z9 GT and the D9. The large SUVs the brand is known for in China are not coming. Those are exactly the cars worth importing, and as plug-in hybrids they are not subject to the extra EU countervailing duty on Chinese EVs.

Popular Denza models to import

Denza N9

The flagship SUV. 5.26 metres long, six seats in three rows, a 2.0 turbo with three electric motors and 912 horsepower combined. It reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and drives more than 200 kilometres on electricity. Rear wheel steering lets it move diagonally sideways. In China from 389,800 yuan.

Denza N8L

A slightly smaller sibling of the N9, also with six seats and three motors. Since 2026 it has a larger battery with 430 kilometres of electric range and ultra fast charging. A serious alternative to a BMW X7 or Volvo EX90.

Denza B8

A boxy seven seat off roader with a ladder frame and 603 horsepower from a plug-in hybrid system. Not announced for Europe, but sold officially in the United Arab Emirates.

Denza Z9

The saloon version of the Z9 GT, with a conventional boot instead of a shooting brake tail. Available as an EV and a plug-in hybrid, and not planned for Europe.

Z9 GT: buy in Europe or import?

In China the Z9 GT costs a fraction of the European price. Even so, the sums are not simple. An electric Z9 GT from China pays 10 percent import duty, the 17 percent EU countervailing duty for BYD and import VAT. It also lacks EU type approval, runs Chinese software, has a Chinese charging port and comes without a European dealer warranty. For the Z9 GT we usually recommend buying from a European dealer.

What to know before you import a Denza

Where the car comes from

China only allows vehicles to be exported under licence, through the manufacturer or authorised exporters. In the Emirates, Denza sells the B5 and B8 officially, and the N9 and D9 are available through importers. That often makes Dubai the easiest route. For the N8L and Z9 we buy through an authorised exporter in China.

Duties: choose the plug-in hybrid

A plug-in hybrid Denza pays the standard 10 percent import duty plus import VAT. A fully electric Denza also faces the EU countervailing duty. On a car in this price range, that difference runs to thousands of euros.

Registration, software and charging

Without EU type approval, an imported Denza is inspected individually in your country. Registration taxes differ per country: the Netherlands charges BPM, Germany has no registration tax. Chinese market cars run Chinese software and use a GB/T charging port, while cars from the Emirates usually have English software. We arrange Dutch and German registration in house and can advise on other countries.

Frequently asked questions about importing a Denza car

Is Denza sold in Europe?

Yes. Since 2026 Denza has been rolling out the Z9 GT and D9 in Europe. The large N9 and N8L SUVs, the B8 off roader and the Z9 saloon are not planned. Import is the only way to get them.

Do I pay the extra EU duty on a Denza?

Only on a fully electric Denza. On top of the 10 percent import duty, it pays the 17 percent EU countervailing duty for BYD. A plug-in hybrid Denza only pays the standard import duty and import VAT.

Can I import a Denza from Dubai?

Yes. In the Emirates, Denza sells the B5 and B8 officially, and the N9 and D9 are available through importers. A car from Dubai usually has English software, which makes daily use in Europe much easier.

Can I charge a Chinese Denza in Europe?

Chinese market cars use a GB/T charging port instead of the European CCS2 connector. Adapters work for normal charging, but fast charging is harder. Cars from the Emirates often have a European connector. Discuss this with us in advance.

Do I get a warranty on an imported Denza?

Do not count on a European dealer honouring the warranty on a car bought outside Europe. The factory warranty usually only applies in the country of sale. Take that into account, especially with a new car.
