Avatr import

At first glance, an Avatr does not look Chinese. Clean lines, a calm interior and proportions that feel European. That is no accident: Avatr's global design centre is in Munich. The brand was founded by carmaker Changan and battery giant CATL, with Huawei supplying technology for the screens and driver assistance. More than 280,000 Avatrs are already on the road in around seventy countries. This month in Paris, Avatr announced its European launch for 2027, starting only in Norway and Spain, with more markets to follow over the next three years. If you live elsewhere in Europe, or simply do not want to wait, Avatr import is the way to get one now. Avatr already sells officially in the United Arab Emirates, the shortest route into Europe. SCL Rotterdam brings your Avatr through the port of Rotterdam and handles everything up to registration.

Why import an Avatr?

Avatr targets BMW, Mercedes and Porsche territory with the latest Chinese technology. Lidar and dozens of sensors for driver assistance, large screens and batteries from CATL, the world's biggest battery maker. The top version of the Avatr 12 reaches 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds with almost 1,000 horsepower.

For import, the range extender versions are especially interesting. An electric motor drives the wheels while a small petrol engine generates power on the move. You drive electrically day to day, but you never have to wait for a charger on a long trip across borders. And these versions are not subject to the extra EU countervailing duty on Chinese EVs.

Popular Avatr models to import

Avatr 07

A mid size SUV with a calm, almost European design, available as fully electric or with a range extender. In the Emirates from 165,000 dirham. For most buyers, the best place to start.

Avatr 12

A low, sporty saloon competing with the BMW i5 and Porsche Taycan. Updated in March 2026, and in China also offered with a range extender good for over 1,100 kilometres. The fastest electric version has three motors and almost 1,000 horsepower.

Avatr 11

A large coupé style SUV and the brand's first model. In the Emirates it is fully electric and costs between 245,000 and 320,000 dirham.

Avatr 07L and 06T

The newest models, which will lead Avatr's European launch in 2027. The 06T is an estate, something rarely seen from Chinese brands. Both are also available with a range extender.

What to know before you import an Avatr

Where the car comes from

China only allows vehicles to be exported under licence, through the manufacturer or authorised exporters. In the Emirates, Avatr sells officially through dealers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which makes Dubai the logical route.

Duties: choose your drivetrain wisely

A range extended Avatr pays the standard 10 percent import duty plus import VAT. A fully electric Avatr also faces the EU countervailing duty on Chinese EVs. For import, the range extender is often the smarter choice.

Registration and taxes differ per country

Once cleared through customs in Rotterdam, the car can move freely within the EU, but registration and road tax are national matters. SCL arranges Dutch and German registration in house and can advise on other European countries. Until Avatr launches in your country, there is no local dealer or service network.

Software and charging

The cabin runs on Huawei technology. A car from the Emirates is set up for that market. Chinese market cars are in Chinese and use a GB/T charging port instead of CCS2.

Frequently asked questions about importing an Avatr car

When is Avatr coming to Europe?

Avatr will launch in Europe in 2027, starting in Norway and Spain, with more countries to follow over the next three years. Until it reaches your country, importing is the way to get one.

Who makes Avatr?

Avatr was founded by carmaker Changan and battery maker CATL. Huawei supplies technology for the screens and driver assistance but is not a shareholder. The brand's global design centre is in Munich.

Do I pay extra import duty on an Avatr?

It depends on the drivetrain. A range extended Avatr pays the standard import duty plus VAT. A fully electric Avatr also faces the EU countervailing duty on Chinese EVs.

Where does an imported Avatr come from?

Usually the United Arab Emirates, where Avatr sells officially through dealers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Importing directly from China is harder, because China only allows vehicles to be exported under licence.

Can an imported Avatr be registered in Europe?

Yes, as long as it meets European requirements. Each country has its own inspection and registration process. We handle Dutch and German registration in house and advise on other countries.
