Our services
In the SCL workshop, we perform the necessary work to make your car roadworthy. Below, we are happy to tell you more about our specific services:
- Car Conversion to European Standards
An imported car from a non-European country often does not yet comply with European Type Approval. At SCL Rotterdam, we know exactly what technical modifications are needed and can carry them out directly after customs clearance in our own workshop. Usually, these are minor adjustments to the lighting. - EU License plate registration
Before you can drive your foreign car on Dutch roads, you need a Dutch license plate. We ensure that your car meets all the requirements, arrange the necessary APK inspection, and handle the registration process for you. In short, we take care of all the formalities for a smooth procedure. - German KFZ Registration
A KFZ registration is the easiest way to provide your import car with European Type Approval. This also makes the inspection and registration with the RDW much easier. Thanks to our cooperation with one of the most reliable inspection bodies in Germany, we can arrange this for you without your car needing to go to Germany. - Accessory Installation
From loading European maps into the integrated navigation system to installing SCM-certified alarm systems and mounting tow bars. You are also at the right place for the installation of accessories. We are happy to upgrade your car immediately after arrival or during the registration process.
Good to know
Good to know: modifications to your imported car are always and only carried out in consultation. Once your car has been cleared, it enters our workshop, and the mechanic conducts a thorough inspection to determine its condition. We then prepare a quote, which is thoroughly discussed with you as the customer. We often offer several options and really think along with you.

Frequently Asked Questions to Our Workshop
The cost depends on the technical condition of the car. Generally, you can expect to pay a few hundred euros. Common modifications needed for American cars include adjusting the car's lighting. The color of the turn signal is often red or yellow, while it must be orange in the Netherlands, and the rear fog light, which is legally required here, is often missing. Sometimes, a special alarm system is also required by insurance.
A car without European type approval can be shipped already, but it cannot be driven on the road here yet. Fortunately, we can help with that. In our workshop, we can carry out an individual type approval, after which we can register your car with the RDW and apply for a Dutch license plate.
Yes, certainly. Our experts are happy to help you estimate how much BPM you still have to pay for the car you want to import. It's good to take this into account in advance, as BPM can be high for imported cars. Read more about this on our page: BPM Calculation & Declaration.
No longer. Our strength lies in guidance and registration when importing, exporting, moving, and buying cars from abroad. If you import a damaged car, you will need to have it repaired at a garage yourself. After that, we can help you with the European type approval, registration with the RDW, and applying for a Dutch license plate.
