Inland transport

In addition to managing worldwide car shipments, SCL Rotterdam also arranges seamless road transport for vehicle collection and delivery when needed. Wherever your car is located, SCL Rotterdam has a wide network of reliable and professional carriers who can quickly and safely collect and deliver your vehicle to its destination.

Across Europe, the USA, Canada and the Middle East, we provide door-to-door transport solutions. Within the United States, for example, we can often arrange vehicle collection from the seller and transport to the port of departure within just 2 to 5 days. In Canada, rail transport is also frequently used — something SCL Rotterdam can fully assist with.

In the Middle East, SCL also offers road transport services. In the United Arab Emirates, distances are often relatively short, and vehicle collection can sometimes be organised within 24 hours — for example, when picking up a car in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Please let us know if the vehicle is non-running or cannot be rolled. Transporting such (damaged) vehicles often involves additional costs, which we prefer to make clear upfront rather than surprise you afterwards.

Is your car located elsewhere in the world? Feel free to contact one of our logistics experts to discuss the options. Through our extensive network of transport partners, we can usually provide a reliable and cost-effective logistics solution.

When is road transport the best option?

Road transport is ideal when your vehicle needs to be transported within Europe or to nearby regions such as the US, Canada or the Middle East. It is also the best choice if you require door-to-door delivery — for example, directly from the seller or to your home address. This makes road transport especially suitable for car enthusiasts, collectors, and people relocating internationally who want to bring their car with them.

How does road transport with SCL Rotterdam work?

SCL Rotterdam organises the entire transport process carefully and personally. We coordinate pick-up with the local contact and ensure safe and timely delivery to the final destination. Within the Benelux, we can often deliver on the same working day. For longer distances, such as between Europe and North America, the average lead time is usually between 2 and 5 working days.

Our specialist approach

With nearly 20 years of experience in car imports from non-European countries such as Dubai, the USA, Canada and Japan, we offer a one-stop-shop service. This means we not only arrange the transport but also take care of the full inspection and registration of your vehicle. We ensure that your car meets all European and Dutch requirements, including RDW certification and German TÜV inspections.

Road Transport Costs

The price of road transport depends on the distance, vehicle type and customer requirements. On average, the cost of transporting a standard passenger car within Europe ranges between €1.25 and €1.75 per kilometre. For special requests, such as a dedicated enclosed trailer, costs may be higher. Contact us for a tailored quotation so we can discuss the best and most cost-efficient option for your situation.

Which documents are required for road transport?

For transport within the Netherlands, no special documents are usually needed. A consignment note (CMR) is drawn up to record the vehicle’s condition at loading and delivery. For international transport, we arrange the necessary documentation, such as export certificates and deregistration with the RDW. This includes the original licence plate, registration certificate, ownership code and a copy of the buyer’s identification. This ensures a correct and smooth transport process.

Is my car insured during transport?

By default, vehicles are not insured during transport unless otherwise agreed. Most carriers have liability insurance that covers damage caused by the driver. Damage resulting from force majeure, such as stone chipping, is usually not included. We recommend discussing insurance options in advance to avoid any surprises.

What happens if damage occurs during transport?

Any damage is immediately recorded on the consignment note. We then carefully investigate what happened and share all findings with full transparency. Via our customer portal, you can view photos and reports. We always look for a suitable solution — because we understand better than anyone how important your car is to you.

Frequenty Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is the difference between road transport and container transport?

Container transport is mainly used for intercontinental shipping by sea, for example between continents. Road transport is often the most efficient and flexible solution within Europe and neighbouring regions.

Can my car also be delivered to my home?

Yes, as long as the location is accessible by trailer. For difficult locations, we always find a suitable solution, such as delivery at the end of the street or a nearby accessible area.

In which countries do you operate with road transport?

We operate throughout Europe, from Spain to Norway, and also in the USA, Canada and the Middle East. The most frequently served countries include the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and Bulgaria.
