Exporting a car? This is how we do it!

Exporting a car without having to worry about it. That is what we promise at SCL Rotterdam. We pick up your car and deliver it ready to drive abroad. What does that all involve? Below we show you the process step by step.

Our Process

What are the steps involved in car export?

Collection

We pick up the car from you and transport it by trailer to our warehouse in the port of Rotterdam. Alternatively, you can deliver it yourself to our warehouse in Schiedam.

Deregistration

When you export the car due to emigration or sale, we handle the deregistration from the vehicle register with the RDW. You can then also cancel your insurance.

Preparation

Next, we prepare the export documentation. We gather all the necessary documents for a smooth customs clearance of the car in the destination country.

Loading

We ensure that the car is neatly and safely loaded into the container, according to the transport package you have chosen. The container is then delivered to the port of departure by our transporter.

Shipping

Hooray, the car is all set for departure! Your car is now being shipped to its new destination. The exact duration of the crossing depends on the destination and the transport port.

Assistance with customs clearance

We can also help you clear your classic car in many countries. In the USA and Canada, for example, we work with local partners. They know the laws and regulations like the back of their hand and ensure that your classic car is unloaded and registered on site without too much trouble. Especially nice if you plan to use the classic car abroad yourself.

Costs for exporting a car

The costs for exporting cars vary enormously. The type of transport, the destination and the condition of the car all have an influence on this. The possible guidance of a local agent also has a price tag. At SCL Rotterdam we make no secret of this. In a quote we are happy to map out all the costs for you. No nasty surprises afterwards!

Transport packages

When importing a car, you can choose from various transport packages. We basically offer four options for this.

Economy Class
In the Economy Class, we ship your car on a consolidation basis. This means your car will be shipped together with other vehicles in one container. We wait until the container is full before we depart. Budget-friendly!

Business Class
The ideal option for vulnerable cars or those with lowered chassis? Business Class. In this option, we transport your car with a maximum of two other vehicles in a container. We also guarantee that your car will be securely and directly placed on the floor.

Special Class
A dedicated container, exclusively for your car. That's what you get with Special Class. Your car can be shipped on the first available transport. Is sea freight not fast enough? Air freight is also an option. By far the most premium transport method.

Ro-Ro
Cars taller than 2.40 m that do not fit in a container are driven directly onto the ship using 'roll on, roll off'.

In some cases, road transport is also an option. For example, if you want to export your classic car to Europe and the final destination is accessible by land.
